Ruth was born in Fargo, ND in 1959 and graduated from the University of Oregon with a BA degree.
She works with traditional B&W film and hand-colors directly onto the silver gelatin prints using photo retouch dyes. This process is time-intensive but allows for a wide range of color effects from soft and subtle to intense and vivid.
Using B&W film, Ruth likes to shoot architecture and landscapes she finds interesting. Then she infuses the printed image with the retouch dyes to create a mood or impression that draws the viewer into the piece. The end result is a unique-one-of-a-kind original print!
Travel and Architecture have been the main themes running through her imagery throughout her career. These themes have included Miami Art Deco architecture, the Champagne Region of France, Road Trip USA, New Orleans and various cityscapes and landscapes.
Ruth has had many solo and group shows over the past two decades in the Midwest and on the West coast. She is currently working on a series of images of Los Angeles architecture and landmarks.
